Awkward hair?

Lupus or Alopecia?

Black women, we are extremely particular about our hair am I right? As for me, I do not play about my hair. So, when I noticed my hair was falling out and I’m talking about a hand full of hair was coming out every time combed it, I knew something was wrong. The first thing I thought to do was to get a nice cut and trim. I was missing my hair, but I knew it would grow back.

I cut my hair about a year ago. Right before the summer of 2019. To help my hair, grow and breathe, I decided to style my hair in faux locs all summer. When fall came, I was tired of the locs. I decided to have my hair out accompanied with clip-ins. I would braid most of my hair and clip the tracks onto the braids and flat iron my leave out. I also put together a little mixture of grapeseed oil, coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil, avocado oil, and peppermint. I made sure to moisturize my hair every other day and washed it every week. My hair was still dry and dull. It would frizz up in moisture and I could not get my hair straight. Even with a heat protectant my hair was still breaking.

My hair continued to fall out. It grew back a little, but it was uneven. I got a second trim. I was informed by my stylist that I had a few bald spots and thinning. I thought I was about to have a heart attack. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what the issue was. The only thing I could think of was my health. I have Lupus and one of the symptoms can be hair loss. I was talking to my coworker about it and I mentioned I believed the Lupus was causing my hair to fall out and she asked, “are you sure it isn’t Alopecia?”

Alopecia? I never thought of that. When I researched Alopecia, I noticed it can be caused by stress, autoimmune disorders, or hormonal changes. At the time, I was having trouble sleeping, my blood pressure was high, had a kidney infection, and the flu. So, you can say I was very stressed. Adding to this stress is the coronavirus and I am trying my best to keep sane. Since ill be quarantined for a bit, I figured I'll try some new hair products and change my diet. I am currently using Wild Growth oil, Natrols maximun strength Biotin, and Hairfinity gummies. I wash my hair with Carol's Daughter black vanilla shampoo and conditioner. My hair is also in a protective style. I Will update to let you guys know what happens. Wish me luck.
